The 8th National Council meeting on Hydrocarbons, with a theme,"THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY ACT,2021: THE JOURNEY SO FAR"kicked off Tuesday 10th December with National Council meeting.
The program which took place at the State Event Center Asaba,Delta State,was attended by participants from Oil Producing Communities.
In a welcome address, the commissioner for Oil and Gas, Chief Peter Okagbare Uviejitobor, said the Petroleum Industry Act,2021had made landmark achievement in Nigeria's quest for a transparent, efficient and Environmentally conscious enhanced regulatory frame works and promotion of local content.
He explained that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, was ensuring that host Communities are accorded their rights of place in the sector and enhanced their socio-economic well being for sustainable development.
The Commissioner stated that the State Governor,Hon.Sherif Oborevwori led admonition was not unaware of the importance and what the Oil Producing Communities are to benefit from the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and encouraged participants to take the meeting seriously to achieve the best.
In a remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources,Amb.Nicholas Agbo Ella, represented by the Director of Upstream Department, Mr.Busari Kumoru, said the National Council on Hydrocarbon meeting was aimed at garnering ideas that will propel good policy formulation in oil and gas sector.
He said Nigeria's economy to a large extent depends on the revenue generated from Hydrocarbons,stressing that successive Government tends to pay much attention to the oil and gas sector with the aim of realizing the numerous benefits inherent in it for developing and diversifying the economy.
Ambassador,Ella said ministry of Petroleum Resources was created with a mandate to formulate policies, and supervise their implementation and regulate the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.
He noted that the world is yearning for cleaner energy and discouraging the use of fossil fuel do to it's pollutant effects, saying that Nigeria must be awake to tap into the great potentials in gas.
The permanent Secretary appreciated the State Government for hosting the Council meeting and encouraged participants to ensure they use the outcome to move the nation forward.
