A twelve man security Taskforce to combat crime in Oshimili South Local Government has been inaugurated.
Inaugurating the Taskforce at the Oshimili South Local Government Headquarters, the Chairman of the local Government, Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, said it was an auspicious occasion and a strategic step towards addressing security issues in the Oshimili South Local Government Area.
He said it was the primary responsibility of every government to maintain law and order saying that it was the premises on which development can be achieved in any community.
Chief Ezenyili explained that the challenges of security infrastructure has a major concern to his administration right from the previous tenure, adding that since Assumption of office it has become more pressing with the increase of criminality which is undoubtedly connected with the influx of criminals from the neighbouring states which has posed a problem for tackling.
He commended the security agencies in the local Government for their efforts in ensuring that criminality was checkmated within the available resources at their disposal in responding to security breaches in Oshimili South Local Government.
The chairman pointed out that the committee was charged with the respondents to identify and assess security threats within the local Government,as well to develop strategies to prevent crime, including night patrols and neighbourhood Watch initiative.
According to the chairman, the committee is also to enhance intelligence gathering and information sharing,as well promote community participation in crime prevention,among others.
Chief Ezenyili explained that the essence for the inauguration was to ensure that Oshimili South Local Government remained crime free and conducive to economic activities as promised during campaign.
The chairman presented three Sienna cars and five motorcycles for their operations.
The chairmen of the committee are the Area Commander,ACP Alex Udeze, and LT.COL.LEO, Garrison 63 Brigade, Nigeria Army Asaba.
Ogbueshi Nnamdi Chukwuedo as Director General while mr.Francis Nwanze as Rep of Oko and Okwe while Mr.Tony Olise as Deputy Director Achala IBUSA.
He also said that all DPOs in the local Government are members of the committee.
Responding on behalf of others, the Area Commander ACP Alex Udeze and LT.COL.LEO Commended the chairman for the gesture saying that it would go along way to assist the law enforcement agencies in checkmating crime in the local Government.
Meanwhile,the chairman of Oshimili South Local Government equally signed the 2025 year budget into law.
He promised to ensure that Oshimili South Local Government move forward no matter the economic situation in the country.
