Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy Sir Monday Onyeme, and the entire Structure of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state on Monday 28 April officially moved to the All Progressives Congress APC.
The Defectors were accepted into the APC by the National Chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje in the Cenotaph Asaba Delta State.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kasheem Shettima said the defection was a positive step towards building a new Nigeria where the collective interest of the nation towered above selfish goals.
President Tinubu commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for facilitating the defection of the political structure of the PDP in Delta State into the APC.
He commended Governor Oborevwori for championing all round development in the state, and called on him as leader of the party in the state to carry everybody along.
Receiving the decampees, the National Chairman of the APC,Dr Abdullahi Ganduje charged the governor to sustain the progressive development governance in line with the renewed hope agenda, and presented the APC’s flag and symbol of the broom to him.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori pledged to unite the factions in the party, stressing that as the leader he would work with the President in fast tracking all round development.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, immediate past governor of the state Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, among other party elders and members said apart from moving out of opposition, the defection would bring Delta State more development from the centre.
