KEKE RIDERS CHAIRMAN CHARGES RESIDENTS TO COOPERATE WITH RIDERS FOR PEACE

The Deputy Taskforce Chairman for Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators in Delta State, Comrade Uchenna Okafor, has called on residents to show greater cooperation and respect towards Tricycle (Keke) riders, describing them as patriotic citizens contributing to the state’s peace and development.
In an interview, Comrade Okafor highlighted that a significant number of the tricycle operators are university graduates who have turned to the transport sector to earn a living and supplement their income amidst the challenging economic climate.
“To curb insecurity, all operators are required to wear identifiable uniforms and display clearly marked inscriptions on their vehicles.
“This has not only helped distinguish legitimate operators from impostors but also contributed to greater accountability and safety across the state,” he said.
These include regular training and retraining programmes for riders, as well as collaborations with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations and safety standards.
Comrade Okafor also debunked persistent allegations of double billing, stressing that the only officially sanctioned daily ticket fee is ₦300.
“Any deviation from this amount is not authorised and should be reported,” he noted.
He reiterated that his efforts are in alignment with the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which prioritises modernisation, orderliness, and reform across critical sectors.
To this end, the taskforce holds regular consultations with the Ministry of Transport to review concerns and refine operational guidelines.
“Public education campaigns have also been rolled out to sensitise both operators and passengers about safety protocols and how to report suspicious activities,” he added.
According to him, these combined efforts are geared towards building a safer, more organised and people-focused transportation system in Delta State.
He expressed optimism that, through collective action and continued support, tricycle operators will continue to provide essential services to the public while upholding professionalism and safety.
