Operatives of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested 322 suspected drug abusers at various locations in Delta State.
Delta State Commander of NDLEA, Abubakar Wada, who confirmed the arrest at a Press briefing in Ogwashi Uku, on Wednesday, said that the Suspects which comprises 248 males and 74 females were arrested in the State between January and March, this year.
Wada also disclosed that there was quarterly seizures of 1.3328 tonnes and 42.54 litres of drugs exhibits during the period under review.
He said that a truck load of cannabis worth about N25m was nabbed at about 2:30 am along Ughelli- Kwale road but unfortunately the dealers escaped in a whiskers.
"Although they are still on the run but we are going to maintain the tempo of operations, not only to arrest them but also to reduce the incident of drugs abuse in the State" he explained.
The State commander, stated, among others, that a total of 50 hectares of Cannabis farm was destroyed in Orogun community, Ethiope council of the State.
He said though these drugs abusers and dealers are dangerous and heartless during operations, the command was able to convict 76 of them while 195 drugs users were counselled within the period.
While tasking all stakeholders to join hands with ndlea to win the war against drugs abuse in the society, Abubakar Wada said the command rehabilitated five clients, and made provisions for free medications to members of the host community
