OBOREVWORI HAILS OSHIMILI SOUTH COUNCIL CHAIRMAN FOR IMPACTFUL DEVELOPMENT STRIDES
The State Governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged local government Councils in the state to make themselves more relevant to the needs of the people.
Hon Oborevwori gave the charge in Asaba today at the empowerment of 250 persons by the Oshimili South local government.
The Governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, noted that the impact of government could only be reasonably felt when as many persons as possible were taken out of the poverty line.
He said the state government needed the complementary roles of the local government Councils in making life more meaningful to the Deltans and commended the Chairman of Oshimili South local government, Dr Kelvin Ezenyili, for his giant strides in infrastructural and human capital development.
Hon Oborevwori stated that he had keenly followed up with the performance of Dr Ezenyili and was convinced that he had met the expectations of his people, which he maintained was the real essence of governance.
The Governor urged the people of Oshimili South to continue to support the state government and the Council for greater delivery of the dividends of democracy.
Political leaders who spoke on the occasion, including the PDP leader in Oshimili South, Chief Edwin Uzor; Chairman, PDP Delta North, Elder Moses Iduh; and the Oshimili South PDP Chairman, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, praised the leadership qualities of the Dr Ezenyili and called for more support for him.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Council Chairman, Dr Kelvin Ezenyili, said the empowerment programme was aimed at complementing the efforts of the Oborevwori administration at reducing poverty, especially in view of the prevailing hard times.
He said each of the 250 beneficiaries, who were painstakingly selected from across the wards to ensure that those who had benefitted in the past were not listed, would receive cash gifts of N100, 000 to support their businesses and improve their socioeconomic life.
The Council Chairman, who also distributed 220 bags of rice to the federal wards in the LGA, said it was his modest contribution towards cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the people this festive period.
