Resident Doctors at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, have commenced a one-week warning strike over perceived government’s insensitive to the significant issues affecting the provision of optimal patient care and training of Resident Doctors in Delta State.

The President, Association of Resident Doctors, Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Dr Harrison Adja, who announced this while briefing the press in Asaba, said the situation had led to an increase in mortality rate and needed to be urgently addressed.
He noted that the infrastructure at the Teaching Hospital were fast deteriorating and not working optimally, decrying the poor monthly subvention the tertiary health institution was getting from government, which he insisted needed to be upgraded to ensure improved healthcare delivery in the state.
Dr Adja listed other contentious issues to include poor salary structure, which had forced a good number of doctors out of the country in search of greener pastures.
He called for an audience with the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to discuss the challenges and proffer solutions, pointing out that the Teaching Hospital should be in a good condition to be able to effectively handle referral cases from other health facilities across the state and beyond
