Ogume People Celebrate Nduku Festival 2024
The Annual Ndukwu Festival of Ogume Kingdom is a vibrant celebration of culture and tradition.
This year's event, held at Ogbe Ogume central town in Ndokwa West LGA, was a huge success, attracting both indigenes and visitors who joined in the traditional dances and merriment.
Speaking with his Royal Eminence, Dr. Valentine Ossai Akpati, the Osele Uku of Ogume Kingdom,praised the peaceful atmosphere, emphasizing that the festival is a time to thank God for a peaceful end of the year and the harvest of new yam.
According to him, the 2024 Nduku Ogume festival was a resounding success, celebrating peace, brotherhood, and happiness in the Ogume community He said, culture plays an important role in lives of separate individuals and the society as the whole. Culture helps to accumulates, control and organise the human experience, that is the main reason why the people of Ogume are united because they believe in their true culture.
This unique festival serves as a platform to promote unity and condemn harmful actions like adultery and stealing, using music to shame offenders and warn potential ones.
He said the festival also marked the beginning of the new yam season, a significant tradition in the community.
Appreciating his people HRH, Akpati also called for peaceful co-existence and love among the Ogume people, saying that it is only peace that can attract development into a community.
His Royal Eminence,Akpati, called on Ogume Kingdom to unite and do things together as one big family.
Highlights of the ceremony showcased
renowned musicians Eric Enuma, Sir Kendo, Adviser Isioma Ossai, Chuks Igba, and Wisdom Nwachuku who electrified the crowd with their performances, making the event an unforgettable experience.
Also the masquerades displayed different comic characters dancing with their followers to pay homage to the Osele- Uku.
The presence of esteemed dignitaries like, Brig.Gen Ugochukwu Ogeleka, Engr Michael Anoka, the Commissioner of Urban Renewal, his brother Hon. Leonard Anoka, and other top dignitaries joined in the celebrations showcasing the community's strong leadership and unity.
The Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Eng. Michael Anoka, and former DESOPADEC, Commissioner, Barr.Leonard Anoka expressed their happiness about the peaceful festival, thanking God that it didn't go into extinction.
They commended the turnout and encouraged the people to continue protecting their culture and traditions.
Eng.Micheal Anoka and Barr.Leonard Anoka stressed the need to sustain Ogume culture saying that it is the responsibility of the people.
Some of the visitor who attended the ceremony including , the Odionlogbo of Ishiaba Kingdom, Delta State,God's power Udugbrakpo ,commended the people for retaining their cultural heritage.
