Parents and guardians have been admonished to take care of their children properly and should avoid living them on the streets while other children are in the school
The member representing Oshimili South local Government,in the State House of Assembly Honourable Bridget Anyafulu, gave the admonition while speaking at the 16th version of the Journalists hangout, parly to party, held on Sunday 1st December 2024,at the press center Asaba.
Hon.Anyafulu said it was the responsibilities of Parents and Guardians to train the children the way they should go, saying that it was the failure of some parents that had resulted in expanding criminal activities in the society.
The legislator said she has been trying on her own to sponsor and ensure that no child is seen on the streets especially during school time which she said was part of her own over sight functions.
Hon.Anyafulu encouraged parents to engage their children in school acquisition no matter the kind of school they are in, saying that it will improve their contributions in building the society.
She condemned some children engaging in drug abuse, prostitution and other criminal activities and called on law enforcement Agencies to up their game.
Hon Anyafulu revealed that she had moved motions, including the one to check mate child abuse, especially those on the streets which she said most of them are not from Delta.
On the high population in the public schools, the law maker said Government is aware of it, stressing that plans were on to decongest the population.
While commending teachers in public schools for their efforts towards engaging the children,Hon Anyafulu called on teachers to do more work on improving the children.
She encouraged residents and school authorities to reintroduce school farming as it was a way to improve food security, adding that any space available in the compounds should be used for any kind of farming.
While commending the State Government for establishing more Universities, she stressed the need for more primary and secondary schools as the population in Oshimili South local Government had increased, having in mind that Asaba is the State Capital.
In infrastructural
development,Hon.Anyafulu said construction of roads in the state capital is on going pointing out that she had joined force with colleagues in Federal level to call for the construction of Oko/Ndokwa link roads as it will be a big achievement.
She also stressed the need to add more primary health care centers in the system as the ones available was not enough service the people.
In welcome address, the State Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe said the Parly to Party was put in place to interact with the public and source for information that will update the society of what is going on around them.
He commended the law maker for honouring the invitation and encouraged others to feel free to be with the Journalists.
