Senator Ned Nwoko has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after careful reflection and consultations with his constituents and political associates. He cited the PDP’s persistent internal crises, lack of leadership, and weakening opposition role as key reasons for his decision. Nwoko warned that without urgent reforms, Nigeria risks becoming a one-party state, which could undermine democracy and national stability.
Following his official reception into the APC by the Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the party specially admitted Senator Nwoko during a special session of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, described Nwoko’s entry into the party as "a whale catch." He emphasized that it was the natural political order for the highest elected official in a zone to assume leadership, thereby affirming Senator Nwoko as the authentic leader of Delta North.
Meanwhile, Nwoko has cautioned Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori against contemplating a move to the APC. Addressing speculations about the governor’s possible defection, Nwoko firmly stated that he would not welcome Oborevwori into the party, citing his lack of performance in providing basic infrastructure for the people.
Responding to questions about internal disputes within the APC, Senator Nwoko described his entry as that of a peacemaker. He assured that he had been engaging with party leaders at various levels and expressed confidence that the APC would form the government in Delta State come 2027, as the party knew what needed to be done to secure victory.
