Understanding the Process: Why Your Representatives Must Act Now
It is important for the people to understand that the National Assembly is made up of two chambers—the Senate and the House of Representatives. Both play crucial roles in legislative matters, including the creation of new states. While the Senate, through the efforts of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, has been vocal and proactive in pushing for the creation of Anioma State, the silence and inaction from our representatives in the House of Reps raise serious concerns.
The fact that the House of Representatives is deliberating on state creation means that there is a legitimate and recognized call for self-determination. This is not just an idea or political rhetoric—it is a process backed by constitutional provisions. If other regions are making strong cases for their own states, why are our representatives not leading the charge alongside the Senator? Their role is not just to occupy seats but to fight for the interests of their people.
At this stage, Anioma people must rally more support for the Senator’s efforts. His early engagement in this process ensures that Anioma remains on course for statehood. However, the lack of action from the lower chamber means we are missing a key part of the legislative process. Both chambers must work together for a final decision, and without coordinated efforts, our case may not be as strong as it should be.
The people must demand accountability. If representatives from other states are pushing for their interests, there is no excuse for ours to remain silent. It is not enough to wait for others to decide our fate—we must take an active role in shaping it. Anioma's future depends on leaders who are willing to push for progress, not those who sit back and watch while others take the initiative.
