The Delta State Transport Management Authority (DESTMA) is working to reduce road crashes in Delta State by collaborating with the public and law enforcement agencies.
The Director General, Delta State Transport Management Authorities,Hon.Benjamin Okiemute who stated this while speaking with newsman, said that, DESTMA's primary goal was to protect lives and properties by enforcing traffic rules and regulations, ensuring fair and just punishment for offenders.
He said the agency is undergoing serious reforms to serve its purpose effectively, after being without a Director-General for almost four years.
The DG revealed that DESTMA, is working closely with the Delta State Police Command to improve traffic management, enforce safety compliance, and reduce road accidents.
Hon.Okiemute called on members of the public to cooperate with the officers to achieve its goals.
He said DESTMA aims to promote road safety through public sensitization campaigns, joint operations, training, and public education to create a disciplined driving culture across the state.
The DG explained that Assaulting DESTMA officials is a serious offense, punishable by up to six months' imprisonment.
The Director-General of DESTMA, Hon. Benjamin Okiemute, has expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the opportunity to lead the agency and has pledged to work with the police and the public to achieve its objectives.
