The Delta State monthly Sanitation exercise too place on Saturday 26th July across the state with restrictions of human and vehicular movements.
The Oshimili South Local Government and Capital Territory Development Agency mobilized their men and equipments with standing Mobile court stationed at Oshimili South Local Government to prosecut offenders,
Spotnews that monitored the sanitation exercise,reports that compliance on Okpananm road and many parts of the State Capital experienced low turnout of residents as many people were seen moving about.
At the Asaba Expressway,FMC and Ibusa junction at Nnebisi road were blocked by the different Taskforce, trying to enforce Environmental laws.
Speaking with some residents, respondents revealed that compliance was not encouraging, adding that restrictions of movement was not properly enforced.
They suggested that Government should be able to apply the law without mercy, saying that sanitation was for the benefits of all.
Speaking further, Mr.Isaac Nwosu HOD, Environment Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency and the Special Duties Supervisor,Oshimili South, Comrade Chibuzor Agunwa said the reason for the sanitation exercise every month was for the good of Deltans as it will help to promote good health.
They said as the rains are on there was need to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in order not to block water channels or drains.
The respondents noted that It has become a norm for corn sellers, traders, eateries and residential occupants not to patronise Private Sector Participants,PSPs, rather they defiantly patronise cart pushers, People using wheel barrow who throw away waste at any available unapproved site.
They called on Deltans, especially perpetrators, to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse in order to keep Delta State clean and avoid attraction of diseases.
Mr.Nwosu and Comrade Agunwa, charged members of the public to Obey environmental laws not only for health reasons but for the beauty of the State stressing that anybody who violates environmental rules will be made to face the trial of the mobile court
At the end of the Sanitation exercise,Mobile Court sitting 26th July, 2025,a total number of Defendants tried 19,18 cautioned, some with Community services and discharged. Only one was fined with an option of imprisonment
